About

The Meinecke Collection premiered in 1993. Founded by artist and designer Kurt Meinecke, the Collection is a marriage of art and craft expressed through an innovative use of color, form and texture. Every handmade rug is an original. We work in collaboration with master artisans and weavers at our international partner mills to create each hand-knotted or hand-tufted rug.

We bring the personal attention of an artist driven studio to every project — selecting colors, materials, weave and size for our wide range of rug designs. We are a trusted resource for interior designers and architects, creating original designs for unique residential and commercial spaces.

Meinecke Collection rugs have been featured in the International Design Yearbook, Interiors, Arbitare, Interior Design, Wallpaper, House Beautiful, The New York Times, and other leading publications around the world. The Collection has received many honors, including the prestigious GoodDesign Award of the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design. The Herman Miller for the Home collections are celebrated as examples of timeless design created for a heritage brand.

“I founded The Meinecke Collection to expand my passion for art and design into a new creative expression. As a painter and designer I am always exploring new forms. Fine rug making evolved as the perfect medium to push my work into a different space. It’s exciting to reinterpret a centuries old craft with a modern aesthetic and a new vision. My goal is to design rugs that — just like a painting — reward you each time you look at them.”
